MOV files exported from cameras, MP4 short videos shot on phones, or various video formats from other devices—they come from different sources with different encodings. When these materials pile up together, they cause various compatibility issues during subsequent media file processing. Facing this situation, converting them all to the widely adopted TS format can fundamentally solve the problem. TS transport stream is a container format born to meet the demands of high-reliability video transmission and multiplexing scenarios. It features excellent error recovery capabilities and streaming characteristics, encapsulating multiple tracks such as video and audio together, making it the preferred format for digital television broadcasting and live streaming.
Here's an efficient batch conversion trick that can convert all common video files like MP4, MOV, and AVI in a folder to the standard TS format, achieving better compatibility and stability. Let's follow along and try it out!
When should you batch convert multiple video files to TS format?
TV system requirements
In some live streaming platforms, TV broadcasting systems, or surveillance recordings, videos are typically displayed in TS format. The TS format is more friendly for continuous playback and data transmission, and even if interrupted midway, issues are less likely to occur. If files are in formats like MP4, AVI, or MOV, they might not be directly usable, so we can batch convert these videos to TS format.
Segmented playback and splitting
In some video systems, videos need to be split into small segments for playback, such as on-demand and caching. The TS format is naturally suited for being split into multiple small files, and even if a single segment has an issue, it won't affect the overall playback. When the original video format does not support this operation, you can batch convert various videos to TS, making subsequent slicing and playback easier.
Reduce playback error rate
Some video files may fail to continue playing if there is network fluctuation or minor file corruption during playback. The TS format has better fault tolerance in this regard; even if a portion of data is lost in the middle, it can still play the subsequent content. Therefore, in scenarios with high stability requirements, converting to TS format can reduce playback failures.
