Having a batch of DWG and DXF drawings on hand, needing to send them for sharing and review, but worrying about arbitrary modifications, or the files being too large and taking too long to send. DWG and DXF, as professional engineering drawing formats, preserve design data and layer content, but the file sizes are relatively large and carry the risk of accidental modification. In contrast, the DWF format maintains the visual effect while significantly reducing file size, offering superior security; users viewing the drawings can only look and measure, but cannot alter the original design.
Here’s an efficient method to batch convert CAD drawings to DWF. Next time you need to send a package of drawings, you won’t have to process them one by one, allowing engineering files to be quickly lightweight and more secure. Follow along and give it a try!
When should you convert DWG and DXF to DWF format?
File Sharing
DWF files are a lightweight CAD file format, convenient for sharing and viewing. Due to its small size and lack of editable content, designers often convert DWG and DXF formats to DWF format, making it easy for clients to review while also protecting design files from modifications.
Review Requirements
During collaboration, when the client or construction party needs to review drawings without editing the content, converting CAD drawings to DWF allows feedback via markup functions, avoids the need for complex CAD software, simplifies the review process, and improves collaboration efficiency.
Reducing Storage
Typically, DWG and DXF files contain complete design data and are relatively large. To reduce storage and network transmission pressure, design teams usually convert files to DWF format. This not only facilitates archiving and backup but also improves file download speed and makes viewing on different devices more convenient.
