We often need to split a single image into six-grid, nine-grid, or other formats to meet various platform display requirements or enhance visual effects. This article introduces five tools for cropping images: HeSoft Doc Batch Tool , WPS Image Tools, imagestool, Image Splitter, GridMaker, etc. In addition to manual cropping tools, there is also a splitting function that can automatically divide an image into a 3×3 grid, keeping each slice consistent in size while preserving the original quality. This approach avoids the complexity of manual measurement and ensures the integrity of the final stitching. This article will use practical examples to demonstrate how to quickly complete the nine-grid splitting operation for images.

Before processing, the complete original image:

After processing, each image is equally divided into nine smaller images:

I. HeSoft Doc Batch Tool
Advantages:
- Professional processing software supports various image formats, allowing you to choose to split each image into 6 or 9 parts.
- Requires few operation steps, no difficulty, and the splitting precision and efficiency are far higher than manual operations. Any ordinary beginner can easily get started and achieve efficient and precise results.
- Supports batch processing of multiple files at once, making it very suitable for users who need to process a large number of files daily.
- Supports customizing the number of images in horizontal and vertical directions.
Disadvantages:
- Requires software installation on the computer.
Operation Steps:
1. Open [ HeSoft Doc Batch Tool ], click [Image Tools] in the left sidebar. The software interface will display as shown below, then click [1. Split image into multiple smaller images].

2. Click [Add Files] in the upper right corner to add the images you need to crop to the software. This software supports adding and processing multiple images at once.

3. Enter the split settings page, select [Average Split] as the splitting method, then fill in the number of horizontal and vertical sub-images. To split into a 9-grid, fill in "3" for both directions.

4. After all images are split, the software interface displays as shown below.

II. WPS Image Tool
Advantages:
- WPS's image tool has a built-in cropping function, so WPS users can use it directly without installing other software.
Disadvantages:
- Only supports manual cropping, which is prone to errors and cannot achieve precise cropping like the first tool.
- Can only crop one image at a time, and only one sub-image from it; cannot batch process multiple images.
Operation Steps:
1. On the [File Manager] page, find the image you need to crop. Right-click the image file, and select [Open with] → [WPS Picture] from the menu.
2. [WPS Picture] will open and display the selected image. At this point, click [Edit] → [Crop] in the upper right corner. A [WPS Picture Editor] will pop up in the software interface, as shown in the figure below.

3. Drag the crop position as needed. After confirming, click the blue icon [√] to see the effect of cropping one sub-image.
4. After confirming the crop effect, click [Export] in the upper right corner. In the new save window that pops up, set information such as save quality, ratio, image size, and format, then click [Confirm] in the lower right corner. If you need to crop multiple sub-images, you can repeat the above operations.
III. imagestool
Advantages:
- Can be used by opening the imagestool webpage in a browser, without installing software that takes up memory.
- Can crop multiple images at once.
Disadvantages:
- Online processing differs from local processing; images need to be uploaded to the webpage, and after processing is complete, they need to be downloaded separately. The steps are relatively cumbersome and may take more time.
- Only supports manual cropping, and cannot directly and precisely split into multiple images, which may easily lead to errors.
- Although batch processing is supported, each operation can only crop one sub-image from each image.
Operation Steps:
1. Open the webpage where imagestool is located in a browser. Select [Crop Image] from the function menu on the homepage to enter the page shown below.

2. Click the blue icon [Select File] to upload all original images that need cropping to the webpage.
3. Select the crop ratio as needed, and drag the size and position of the cropping frame with the mouse. After setting, click on other images to set the corresponding cropping method.
4. After confirming the cropping method for all images, set the output quality and format on the right side of the webpage. After confirming, click [Start] in the lower right corner to begin processing.
5. After all images are cropped, you can scroll down the webpage to preview the crop effect. You can download them individually or click [Download zip] to save the images as a package locally.
IV. Image Splitter
Advantages:
- No need to install software; you can open the web version of this tool in a browser and use it directly, without taking up local computer memory.
- Supports cutting an image into multiple parts, and allows you to set the number of rows and columns after splitting.
Disadvantages:
- Can only split one image at a time; to split multiple images, you need to repeat the operation.
- Online processing websites may have insufficient privacy protection for files; it is best used only for processing images with low privacy concerns.
Operation Steps:
1. Open the webpage where Image Splitter is located in a browser.
2. Click [Select File] to upload the image you need to split to this webpage.
3. Set the number of rows and columns for splitting. To split into a 9-grid, fill in 3 rows and 3 columns.

4. Click [Split and Display] to preview the image cropping effect. After confirming there are no errors, click [Download as ZIP] to save all sub-images locally.
V. GridMaker
Advantages:
- Supports splitting an image equally into multiple images at once, and allows you to set the number of rows and columns for cutting.
- The web version is used directly by opening it in a browser, without needing to download and install other software.
Disadvantages:
- One operation can only cut one image; does not support batch processing of multiple images simultaneously.
Operation Steps:
1. Open the webpage where GridMaker is located, as shown in the figure below.

2. Click [Custom Mode], scroll down the webpage, and you will see two dashed boxes. Click the left dashed box to upload the image you need to split.
3. After the image is uploaded to the webpage, continue scrolling down the page to adjust the number of rows and columns for cutting. Click [Cut Image], and a preview of the cut effect will appear in the dashed box on the right side of the webpage. You can adjust the row and column values based on the preview.
4. After confirming the preview is correct, click [Package Download] to save all sub-images locally.
Summary
Among the five tools introduced in this article, WPS's image tool and imagestool are tools that require manual dragging of the cropping frame. Compared to other tools, they have the advantage of not requiring software installation, and WPS users don't even need to open other web-based tools. However, manually using image editing software for cutting not only involves cumbersome steps but also requires precise calculation of split ratios, easily leading to inaccurate splitting lines or distorted image proportions.
The first, fourth, and fifth tools support precise cropping by setting the number of cuts. The online tools introduced in the fourth and fifth have the advantage of being used directly by opening the webpage through a browser without taking up local memory, but neither supports splitting multiple images at once. The first tool perfectly compensates for this shortcoming, making it very suitable for users who need to split images in batches.
